The following houseplants are non-toxic to cats. Where known, I've added some
(very basic) information on how these plants can be propagated, if you happen
to know anyone who owns some.
- African violet [Including Hanging African Violet]
Fairly easy to propagate. Choose a mature leaf and cut it off, leaving as muchstem as possible.Stick it in a pot with soil and leave it on the windowsill for4-6 weeks. - Aluminum plant
Can be propagated by cuttings. Looks a bit like Audrey 2 from little shop ofhorrors. - Boston Fern
Look for runners that have taken root, or try to encourage runners to take root. - Begonia
- Cacti
Easier just to buy some unless you're green fingered. - Coleus
Propagate - Softwood Cutting. Cut about 2.5 inches of healthy shoot just abovea leaf, remove the lowest leaves and trim the stem to just under the bottomleaf joint. Plant it up.[Pinch off flower buds as they form - Coleus plant dies if allowed to go toseed] - Gloxinia
As with the African violet simply cut off a leaf and plant it up. - False Aralia
- Maidenhair Fern [Adiantum]
Propagate by division. Remove from pot, tease the plant apart ensuring eachpart has some healthy roots. Plant up each part into individual containers. - Miniature roses
Buy a new one and try not to look at the wrong way in case it dies. - Money Tree
Nip off a growing tip and plant it up. - Pepperomia
Same as African violets. Cut off a leaf and plant up. - Prayer plant
Propagate by division. - Shrimp plant [Justicia]
Propagate by softwood cutting. - Spider plant
Propagate March to August - Just cut of a plantlet and plant it up. - Swedish Ivy
Just take a stem cutting and leave it in some water till you see roots, thenplant it up. - Sweet potatoes
Apparently you can grow these from store bought sweet potatoes. - Wandering Jew [Tradescantia]
Remove a half dozen stem tips about 2 inches long, remove lower leaves andplant up. - Zebra Plant
